1928 Farmall Regular
Posted in Tractor of the Week at 10:45AM on 03/23/2010

A big thanks to Richard Kubik of Prague, Nebraska for this week's tractor!  Richard sent us a nice description of the machine and what it means to his family.

Richard is technically the third owner of the Regular, but it has never been out of the Kubik family.  Richard's grandfather, Charles Kubik, bought the tractor new in 1928 from Pabian and Kaspar Equipment in Prague, Nebraska.  At that time, the tractor cost $560.  Since then, it has gained a tremendous amount of value both monetarily and sentimentally.

Charles Kubik passed this tractor on to his son, Raymond, and eventually Raymond passed it on to his son, Richard.  Richard also has a son, Jim, who will probably inherit the Farmall in the future.  This four-generation tracor has been through a lot with the Kubik family. Richard recalls this was the first tractor he learned to drive.  He was about 10 years old, and everyone could tell when he'd been driving the Farmall by his bruised knuckles.  "There was open gears in the front," Richard says, "so the steering was pretty rough."

This tractor came from the factory with a 4-cylinder IH engine that started on gas and ran on tractor fuel.  During his ownership, Raymond (Richard's father) modified the tractor so that it ran on straight gasoline.  The wheels were also changed from it's original steel to rubber in 1944.  Amazingly enough, the back tires you see in the picture are the same tires bought and put on the tractor in 1944.

There was never a large restoration effort put into the tractor.  It was always kept in good condition by the Kubiks.  Richard did do a little work on it.  "I just had to looses up the pistons," says Richard.  He did not have to overhaul the engine or replace any major parts.  The only other major change to the tractor was a new paint job.

Richard now uses the Regular mostly for parades these days.  He does not belong to any collectors groups or tractor clubs.  Richard is not a big collector of antiques, be he is apparently a collector of family history.  Richard has two other old tractors, a Farmall H and an M, both of which are also Kubik family heirlooms.

Thanks for the picture and the description, Richard! Every tractor has a story to tell and that's what this blog is for.  Click on the photo for a closer look.  Don't forget to send us your tractor and spread the word about our blog!
