Dale V. Biehl
Specialist
United States Army

My name is Dale Biehl, I was born and raised in Dawson County and continue to farm the place northwest of Lexington that my Grandparents moved to in 1906.  I had begun my own farming operation when I was drafted in the fall of 1963.  Needless to say, that was put on hold while I did my stint in the service.  I received my basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri.  I was sent to Fort Sill Oklahoma where I took artillery training, from there  I was selected to take secret weapons service training.  There were 12 of us in my squad, and we were all from the midwest.  I have been told that there was a great deal of excitement in this little community when guys in black suits and flashy badges showed up asking questions about me.  I did receive a  secret level clearance and eventually ended up in Geissen, Germany.

While I was at Fort Sill, the first of the active units were mobilized for duty in Viet Nam.  This was a time of great tension in the Cold War.  Although I was never in active combat, it was our job to ensure the safety and security of the U. S. from our Cold War adversaries.

I spent the Christmas of 1965 on a very rough, very cold,  Atlantic Ocean, and got back to Lexington on December 28th.  Judy and I were married on February 12th 1966.  When I returned to Lexington, someone else was  farming the ground that I had rented. So I took a job with Biehl Cattle Company until I was able to find my own ground and once again venture into the farming life.
