This week's featured tractor is one that has gained some local popularity here in Central Nebraska. It's a 1947 John Deere A with an aftermarket Behlen power steering unit complete with John Deere Autotrac. I will let owner Jeff Ludeke from Atlanta, Nebraska explain his machine in his own words.
"I fixed up this 1947 A John Deere because it is similar to what my grandpa Fritz Ludeke use to run when he farmed by Loomis. I went a step further into todays technology and installed a John Deere Autotrac system so it can drive itself on straight or curving passes. This was made possible after installing an aftermarket power steering unit. I've plowed, mowed, used it in parades and even drove it on a tractor poker run (didn't win but had a blast). Wrangler, my dog in the photo, loves rabbit hunting so we jump on the A from time to time and go chase rabbits with it. I've also belted it up to my early Minneapolis Moline E corn sheller to run a part of a wagon of corn threw it (fun)."
Jeff works for Landmark Implement near Holdrege so he knows his technology. This tractor was also featured recently in Green Magazine, a monthly publication for antiques John Deere enthusiasts. Thanks Jeff! Very nice addition to our Tractor of the Week blog.
