Take the Alternate Route

Many trips have been made over the years from Lincoln to Omaha on Interstate 80.  The sights are familar with the Waverly water tower, the Greenwood weigh scales, Mahoney State Park, Platte River bridge, the glass chapel on the hill.  On a recent trip to the east coast of the state, I had some extra time and decided to veer off the path and take Highway 6 from the northeast side of Lincoln.  The byway takes you through several small communities, past golf courses and even a lighthouse.  Well not an active lighthouse anyway.   But, it was well worth the change in scenery to take the drive.   There are a couple of roadways that can take you back to the Interstate or continue to follow the Highway 6 trail to Omaha's West Dodge Street.   In any case, it's worth the side trip, if you have a little extra time.
