facebook news cleaner-upper (updated!)
Posted in Projects at 10:03AM on 01/26/2008

In my quest to make facebook even halfway usable again, I wrote the de-crapifier, which uses a javascript to find and hide all application boxes from your friends' profiles. This is a second script, which will remove application boxes from your home news feed. So if your dumb friend fights a pirate, you don't have to hear about it, and when somerandomgirl adds fifty-thousand Valentine's Day apps, it doesn't pollute your news feed.

Update (additional features):

  • script now hides advertisements from the news feed
  • sets the opacity of friend approval notifications to 25%
  • sets the opacity of rsvp notifications to 50%
If you don't want it to mess with the transparencies, then edit the script and remove those parts.  I made it to suit my needs, and I don't give a crap about that stuff.

To use:

1. Download the Greasemonkey addon for Firefox, if you haven't already.

2. Look at my script, and tell Greasemonkey to install it.

That's all there is to it.
