1937 CO-OP No. 2
Posted in Tractor of the Week at 02:46PM on 08/09/2010

This week's tractor is a very rare 1937 CO-OP No. 2 tractor from Russ Barth of Doniphan, Nebraska.  Russ is collector of rare Allis-Chalmers tractors but he couldn't resist adding this gem to his collection.

Russ tells me this tractor belonged to a Mr. Woodward from near Wichita, Kansas.  He bought it new and used it to pull logs to his sawmill because it has such a high road gear.  More on that later.

These tractors, according to Russ, were made up of mostly Chrysler truck parts.  The company was started by Farmers Cooperative Insurance, Co. and built in Battle Creek, Michigan.  They are not to be confused with the Canadian Co-Op tractors. Only about 3,500 of this particular model were sold.  The motor, tranny, etc was made by Chrysler which is why it has a high road gear speed of 45 m.p.h!  I saw Russ take it up to close to that speed in June at the Annevar Antique Tractor Show.

Click on the pictures below for a closer look. Russ is driving the No. 2 in the second photo.  Don't forget to send us your tractors!  Send at least on picture and a description to the addresses above.
