CASS SUNSTEIN.  If you are in the cattle business, or any aspect of animal agriculture, this man's name should make your blood run cold.  Cass Sunstein is Obama's "Regulatory Czar".  My, isn't that terrifyingly vague?  This nutjob lunatic wants to destroy YOU.  This evil man thinks that animals should be able to file lawsuits.  If this heinous individual gets his way, San Francisco animal rights whacks will start filing class-action lawsuits against every one of us.  On what basis?  False imprisonment?  Cruelty?  Murder?  Civil right violations?  Try all of the above.  He wants to eliminate all consumption of meat, and they way he will do that is by putting all of us out of business through litigation and "endangered species" protections. 

I rant and rave about cost of gain calculations.  Well, tell me, what EXACTLY will having to have a lawyer, or a TEAM of lawyers on retainer and working constantly to defend you in lawsuits at $200 per hour going to do to your cost of gain?  The cattle markets are the best markets in the world and they can bear an incredibly high cost of gain, but they can not bear that.  Remember, these litigious thugs don't need to WIN the lawsuits - they need only be able to bring the lawsuits.  Just defending a lawsuit can be ruinous for everyone in this business smaller than Mr. Engler (remember the Oprah lawsuit?).

Here is where I am.  Maybe you feel the same.  I always used to marvel at the boys who climbed into the Higgins Boats and upon reaching their deployment point on the beaches of Normandy, somehow mustered the courage to run out the front hatch of those boats knowing that a Nazi machine gunner was going to mow them down as they ran through that door.  I always thought "what a horrible waste".  I don't feel that way any longer.  I now understand EXACTLY what their mental state was.  I think that I am approaching that same state of mind.  I am now preparing myself for the reality of war.  I am preparing myself for the possibility that within the next year or two I will have to stop everything - shut down everthing that I do and enlist to defend this nation.  I am prepared to fight, and I am prepared to die, even if my death only serves the purpose of using up a few rounds of machine gun fire so that someone else can get through the lines, or use my dead body as a stepping stone or even a shield.  I understand this now.  Am I productive?  Does my intellect contribute to society?  Yes.  But, I have to consider the possibility that my ultimate purpose, the ultimate meaning for my life lies NOT in what I accomplish in taking up my life, but what I can accomplish by laying down my life.  Now, I've not met most of you.  But I still love you.  I think you are good.  I think you are decent.  I think you are worth it.  I think people who won't even be born for decades or centuries to come are worth it.  Hundreds of years ago, decades ago, a bunch of people thought I was worth it, and they dropped everything, marched off to war and never came home.  And here I stand.  And there you sit.  Because people we never met loved us and thought we were worth it. 

Dying is NOT the worst thing that can happen to a person.  Living in a state of total self-absorption is the worst thing that can happen to a person.  I believe the technical term for that is "hell".  Or "communism".  The two words are almost synonyms.
