This was my first experience with the Oconto Firemens BBQ. I have had a lot of BBQ from around the country, but this was the first time I have ever experienced sensory overload at one! Gail Wightman helped out and allowed me to cruise the stands at my leisure. When we finally drew our finalist, the entry box could not have had too many more slips in it!
I spoke with one of Oconto's Bravest and he explained that this event helped the department update it's equipment. Right now they have need for a new tanker as theirs is a bit long in the tooth and needs to be retired. Having spent a number of years in the volunteer fire service myself, I understand that the equipment necessarily spend a lot of time sitting in the shed waiting to be called to duty, and then has to go on a moments notice. Only newer trucks can deliver this type of service.  I tip my hat to my brothers in Oconto on a first class department and an equally first class event!
