This week's tractor belongs to Delbert Sommer of Maxwell, Nebraska. I took this photo of Delbert and his co-driver Dale Tobey at the KTIC Great Nebraska Tractor Ride this last June. Dale and Delbert take turns driving during the annual event. Dale is a former neighbor or Delbert's who now lives in North Platte.
Dale says this H belonged to his dad who bought it new in 1940 at the local IHC dealer in Maxwell. Dale remembers stacking hay with horses and the flies were bad and sometimes the horses missed where they were supposed to be which got frustrating. He says one day he quit stacking after getting fed up with the horses so his dad told him to go get the H and try using it. Dale says he never went back to the horses!
Dale later bought the tractor from his dad and restored it in 2002. He also has a restored Ford 8N, a Fordson Major and three Farmall F-20's he hopes to make into one tractor. Thanks for sharing this treasure with us, Dale!
