Thomas H. Straka served in the United States Army from October 17, 1961 to October 16, 1963.  He was drafted with Otis Ward, Dick Eby, Eldon Morris and a Wyant from Overton.  He completed his basic training at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs and was then stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.  He also served temporary duty at Fort Hood in Texas at the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis.  He was 152 Military Occuptation Specialty in the Artillery.  He was in company Battery HQ 2-13, Fort Sill.  He was a SP/4 with an honorable discharge.  He very much remembers the Chinook winds, at times 30 degrees below zero with the wind!
