Thoughts on the CMA Awards - Win a Cartoons of the 1970s DVD
Posted in Adam in the Afternoon at 03:35PM on 11/12/2009

I incorrectly guessed the winner of the first award for Wednesday night CMA awards. I thought, at that point the rest of my predictions would completely unravel. However, I finished the night with a 7-4 win/loss record. Hey, at least I'm bowl eligible.  A recap of the night can be found on the Music page at krvn.com.

I've been asked a couple of times “Why wouldn't Brooks & Dunn go on stage during the presentation of the CMA Duo of the Year award” My answer; “Because they didn't win.” Sugarland tried to pay tribute to Brooks & Dunn by inviting them to the stage. It was an awkward moment during the broadcast. I really think Brooks & Dunn appreciates the run of success they've enjoyed of over the years. They are also content to let a new artist like Sugarland take up the torch. Maybe Kix & Ronnie didn't want to take the spotlight during Sugarland's winning moment?

Barbara Mandrell and Charlie McCoy were recognized on stage for being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Martina McBride & George Strait performed a Barbara Mandrell song. McCoy accompanied on the harmonica. Where was Roy Clark's recognition? They only read his name. Come on CMA, at least play an old Hee Haw clip or something!

River listeners have been reviewing the CMA Award performances on my facebook page. Favorites included The Zac Brown Band, Martina McBride, Kenny Chesney, Sugarland, Lady Antebellum, Darius Rucker, Miranda Lambert, and Jamey Johnson. Carrie Underwood received the most unfavorable reviews from River listeners. However, I think that the night's star, Taylor Swift, owned the poorest performances. I guess the fist song she sang was called “Forever and Always”. I found that out a day later. Her karaoke version of Fifteen was also less than impressive.

Please share your thoughts below.  One lucky contributor will win a 2 disc DVD set of Saturday Morning Cartoons: 1970s Vol. 2

I thought the show lastnight was excellent. Brad & Carrie were a blast and
obviously work well together and I thought the show moved along rather
smoothly. No rude interruptions and no foul language. I personally thought
that Brooks & Dunn were being diplomatic in declining Sugarlands invitation
to come onstage. I also thought that Taylor Swift was very deserving in
winning all of the awards that she did win. It is definitely time for some
new faces in Country Music, instead of the same people winning year after
year.

Last nights show was a good one. Good performances and respectable award winners. But, the highlight of the night was when Jamey Johnson duo'd with Kid Rock. I personally think Kid Rock took out the personal favoritsm of the song. Jamey diod not need Kid Rock to perform the song with him. Jamey is an amazing singer/songwriter. Kudos goes to him. Jamey could of wowed the crowd even more without Kid Rock.
