Its better here

Well, for as bad, and as cold, and as blustery as it is here in our fantastic home of Nebraska, it is worse in Iowa. According to reports, they have had well over a foot of snow fall and it is still coming!  Accident reports cannot even be counted at this point, the Interstate is a mess (both 80 and 35) and the state is becoming quickly immobilized.  Dan was going to head out here for the week, leaving this morning, but delays until afternoon proved to be lifesaving and he is comfortably still in Illinois where the forecast has turned from blizzard to winter rain. Travel on Interstate 80 would have been more than treacherous so we will be monitoring the highway overnight and in the morning to see if it is safe to venture out, but with winds and wind chills, snowfall and recovery efforts not even started; I doubt Dan will be on the road tomorrow either.

A lot of people think of storm chasing as that adrenaline-filled crazy stuff they see on television but if you want to see the real storm chasers, check out the men and women out there monitoring the winter weather to bring the reports all day today and those that are braving the very worst and dangerous weather of tonight. The resilience of those in the Iowa media is amazing right now and they are doing a fantastic job of bringing up-to-the-minute reports on Twitter, Facebook, television and radio. Real heroes.

Hopefully the public has the sense to stay put and ride it out instead of ride out in it.
