How 'bout that cattle market, eh? Fats up $5. Hoo doggie. It's the answer to our prayers.
Or . . . is it?
Actually, I can think of no bigger waste of good prayer time than to be praying for the market to go up. Do you know why it is such a waste? Because absolute market movement is IRRELEVANT. It has nothing to do with profitability. Nada. Zilch. Zippo. Obama. Nuthin. The Good Lord hears you, but I reckon He is shaking His head in bemused frustration. Really. If you're going to bend the ear of the Great I AM, you really should stick to things that actually . . . matter. But, at least you're talking to Him. I reckon it's better to talk to Him about meaningless trivia than to not talk to Him at all.
Here's the proof of my point, once again:
SELL 1350# fat steers @ $85.00
BUY 635# top-quality steers at Watertown, South Dakota @ $109.85
Return on the Gain = $0.63 per pound
Loss per head with a $0.77 cost of gain = ($100) per head.
What good does it do to beg God for a higher market if we just go blow it all out the other side? Shaking His head in bemused frustration, indeed. How about we beg God for . . . wisdom, knowledge, and discernment, amongst other things? Then, we would do this:
SELL 1350# fat steers @ $85.00
BUY 951# Med-Lrg 1-2 steers at Watertown, SD @ $86.00
Return on the Gain = $0.83 per pound
Profit per head with a $0.77 cost of gain = $23.94 per head
Because then we could sleep at night and not be miserable and terrified all of the time, and we wouldn't have to plunge ourselves deeper into debt just to survive, and instead of always ASKING God for stuff, we could just say, "thank you", and pray for the OTHER people in the world who are scared and suffering.
Crazy, huh?
Forecasters are killing the North American Cattle Industry.
"Global warming" is a complete fraud designed to advance the cause of socialism and enslave humanity.
Abortion is the murder of an innocent human being and is never justified under any circumstance whatsoever.
Every human being is a question, to which the ONLY answer is Jesus Christ.
