The worst possible outcome has occurred now that five year old Shaniya Davis, found dead in North Carolina, has been recovered. The details of this case are horrific. Shaniya Davis was reported missing last Tuesday in North Carolina. Mario Andrette McNeill has been arrested and charged with the murder of Shaniya and her mother, Antoinette Nicole Davis, has been accused of prostituting Shaniya. Shaniya’s body was found near Walker Road, in the area of Highway 87 in North Carolina.
Human trafficking right here in America. We don’t want to think about it do we? After all, safely overseas are these weird countries nobody goes to…THAT is where this stuff is supposed to be happening…NOT HERE!
Unfortunately, the reason why the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) estimates that well over 100,000 children and young women are trafficked every day in America is because we don’t thin it can happen here.
It does.
Thank God we live in rural America at least, right?
Wrong again.
Little Shaniya went missing from an area not much different than Lexington.
Folks, I cannot even begin to comprehend what a low-life this mother had to be to do this to her child, but I can tell you one thing: our children are not safe. The world has changed, and we need to be VERY aware of what is happening around us. We need to pay more attention. We need to watch what our kids are doing, what they are listening to, who they are talking to, what websites they are on…
Sexual trafficking is not the only type of trafficking in America, but to put the threat into perspective for you, the children being used by sex traffickers alone in this country range in age from 9 to 19 with the average being 11 years old!
This evening I heard a statistic that stated over 300,000 children in America are trafficked for some reason or another! While most of the kids in danger are runaways and drug addicts (what the press has referred to as “disposable youth”), there is a growing number of kids just like yours. Just like mine.
Be careful. Shaniya was sold right in rural America.
We pray for her family tonight, for her father, for friends of the family and for those responders and law enforcement officers that had to find this little girl discarded on the side of a road.
