Power Steering with Ann Barnhardt May 1, AD 2009

Good afternoon!  Before I forget, over on my blog at www.Barnhardt.biz , I have a feature called "Jukebox Friday".  I upload classic country tunes that can play through Internet Explorer.  I'm talking the GOOD stuff - Hank Sr., Hank Snow, Marty Robbins, Don Gibson, LeRoy VanDyke.  You know, REAL country music that existed before Garth Brooks came along and killed it.  I think Alan Jackson is about the only true country music star left.  So, we keep it old school, not just on the cattle marketing side, but also on the musical side.

Speaking of old school cattle marketing, a friend of mine who attended the first Bud Williams Marketing school I ever taught in Kansas City back in 2005 called me last afternoon with the following trades he made this week.  He is from an undisclosed location in Nebraska, so I'll bet some of you reading this might know him.

First, his stocker trade:

SOLD 540# heifers at $106.00
BOUGHT 358# heifers at $110.00
Return on the Gain = $0.98 per pound
Profit per head with a $0.78 cost of gain = $36.40

Good stuff, right?  Well, our Husker buddy had sold a pen of fat heifers late last week.  While he was at the same sale, some 11-weight steers ran through.  Check THIS out:

SOLD 1155# fat heifers out of the feedyard late last week at $87.40
BOUGHT 1116# steers at the same sale as the stockers above at $73.75
Return on the Gain = $4.78 per pound
Profit per head with a $2.00 cost of gain = $108.42

I kicked the cost of gain up to $2.00 per pound just to silence the whiners out there.  If you're whining about the 11-weight steers having a higher gain cost, I've already cut you off at the pass.  You can't fight it.  Profit is everywhere, but only the skilled, bold and courageous man collects it.  The socialist victim, waiting for a government handout or lawsuit settlement is doomed to misery and failure.  Pick your team, gentlemen.

For those of you who are still getting used to me and my style, you may be saying to yourself that I haven't talked about the markets today.  Oh, but I have.  That's all I talk about - the markets TODAY.  There is more useful information in the little screed above than in a lifetime's worth of forecasting newsletters and talking head commentary.  The mathematical realities shown above are REAL.  They are not my opinion, forecast or projection.  They are real trades made by a real man, just like you, who has real bills that need to be paid with real money.  He has a real wife and real children.  And this afternoon, this man has more cash in his checking account than he had a week ago, with the same number of real cattle in his real inventory.  He is REALLY profitable.  You can have exactly the same, but you have to leave behind the phony world of forecasting and fortune-telling, and enter the reality of TODAY.  Have a great weekend!

Forecasters are killing the North American Cattle Industry.
"Global warming" is a complete fraud designed to advance the cause of socialism and enslave humanity.
Abortion is the murder of an innocent human being and is never justified under any circumstance whatsoever.
Every human being is a question, to which the ONLY answer is Jesus Christ.
