We were talking about the silly USDA cattle inventory report yesterday.  In the same track, the USDA announced yesterday afternoon that their corn acreage estimates might need to be . . . how shall we put this . . . REVISITED.  In other words, they think there is an error, and now want a do-over.  A do-over?  Maybe in 3rd grade kickball there are "do-overs", but in the real world, once you take your finger off of the chesspiece, you're committed to the move, Baby.  And we want these people running HOSPITALS?  There aren't any do-overs on hip replacement surgeries or quadruple by-passes.

As a result, corn rallied sharply today, implying that the do-over would result in fewer acres, not more.  The point is, do we appreciate the utter FUTILITY of these macro-economic statistics, most of which are provided by that bastion of incompetence, the federal government?  Macroeconomics is a joke.  J-O-K-E.  Joke.  It is the refuge of men who want to be regarded as genius-prophets, but refuse to ever be held accountable for their so-called "genius" or their "prophecies". 

"Oh, did you get it wrong?  That's okay.  Just change it.  You'll get it right the next time!  Aw, who are we kidding - you'll NEVER get it right, but that's okay, because none of us really expect you to get it right anyway!  You can drive my business into the ground, wreck my marriage and essentially strip my life of anything resembling joy or contentedness with your mushmouthed macroeconomic forecasts, but as long as you buy me a beer at the next convention, all will be forgiven."

How about this:  How about you hold ME completely accountable for what I say and buy your own darn beer?  Doesn't that sound like a better arrangement?  Think it over.
