It seems odd to me that this will be the last time more than likely that I will travel to Texas to cover the Big 12 media days. I have been covering this event for KRVN since the late 1990's. Next year with NU joining the Big Ten I will be headed in east in late July. A lot has happened in this time regarding the Huskers. In those days Frank Solich was calling the shots and folks wanted to know if he could keep the Big Red machine going. Eric Crouch was the man back then running the option for NU and of course that led to a Heisman Trophy for Crouch. For Solich the ending wasn't so good when he was fired by athletic director Steve Pederson. Then came our good buddy Bill Callahan who always seemed like coaching college football was a step down for him. Of course we all saw how that one ended. Then came Bo Pelini, with his straight ahead approach to football and the media. In two years, he has done a nice job getting Nebraska back on track it would seem. This year NU is the favorite to win the Big 12 north. It could be a great fall for the Huskers if things fall into place. I have no idea what the reception will be like for NU this week or this season. Many of the media in the remaining Big 12 region just can't understand why NU would leave and head east. In the end it won't matter, the results will be decided on the field and we will see in December if Nebraska walks away with the Big 12 football title on it's way out the front door.
