photo carousel using lightbox/slimbox
Posted in Projects at 12:36PM on 01/27/2008

There are a lot of photo carousel types of scripts out there, but none of them fit with what I was trying to do in one of my other projects, so I wrote this one from scratch. It uses mootools and slimbox in this example, however, I moved it directly into a project using lightbox and it worked without any modifications there as well. If you use this, you'll likely need to adjust the path of the "on" and "off" indicator graphics, but you shouldn't have to do much else.

I tested on Firefox/Safari on mac, Firefox and all versions of IE from 5 on up.

Here is my example page, and all of my source files can be downloaded right here.

Hello,

I've been looking for a combo like this, (an image carousel and a lightbox effect), for a while for my next generation site. I've found jcarousel in conjunction with thickbox; both use jquery. For the non-progammer such as myself, it's a little clunky and I'm having some issues with Safari. I really want a carousel 'glider effect' which unfortunately, your example doesn't provide. Can you steer me in the right direction? I've tried glider and lightbox but they don't play well together.

Regards,

dw

Hi David - I tried using the jcarousel one and liked their effects, but didn't like the way it acted when you get to the end of your list. It 'jumped' and did some strange things.

I'll try adding the glider effect from mootools and see how that looks. I want to extend this so that it'll be able to display X thumbnails that glide across, then you click and get the lightbox effect. It shouldn't be difficult at all... just a matter of time :)
